Gifts for new homeowners at Christmas time

18th December 2018

Moving home at the best of times can be extremely stressful, but at Christmas there will undoubtedly be added stresses and strains from complicated chains being slowed down by the holiday build up, to business such as removal firms being closed for the festive period. However, one of the main stresses can be how chaotic life is at the time of year when all we want to do is relax with our loved ones.

If you know anyone who is brave enough to move home in the middle of the festivities, we’ve come up with Christmas gift ideas that will also double up as a housewarming gift too. These thoughtful presents will also lighten the load and provide some yuletide cheer in amongst the boxes and chaos.

A warm welcome

It’s one of the first things people see when they visit so a lovely “Welcome” mat at the front door is a way to bring personality and a dash of style to a property. Whether you go for a timeless classic or a novelty doormat it will be a thoughtful present that the new homeowners will enjoy for many years to come.

Time for Tea, or coffee

Given that most home movers are likely to have their old tea and coffee pots packed away in an unnamed box yet to be unpacked, a gift of caffeine will be gratefully received.  If you pair your pot with some tasty teabags or freshly ground coffee, your gift will be extra useful as you can catch-up over a nice brew.

The scents of Yuletide

Who doesn’t love their home to smell of the season at Christmas time, so picking out some beautiful candles from heartening cedarwood or relaxing sandalwood with a touch of warming sweet cinnamon will be greatly appreciated. There are lots of candles to choose from that are synonymous with the season which will not only be a thoughtful way to add some cheer but also cover up some of the most common “new home” smells like dust or fresh paint.

A fresh herb Garden

A fragrant fresh herb garden will not only add a splash of colour and style to a new kitchen it will also provide the new homeowner the ability to spruce up a simple meal in-between unpacking. Sage, parsley, rosemary and thyme will also work wonders with the Christmas Turkey. Extra brownie points if they are in some beautiful plant pots too.

A food hamper full of seasonal goodies

Christmas is a time to eat, drink and be merry, but when you have just moved home chances are you haven’t had time to shop, so your collection of seasonal treats and goodies are going to be limited.  A basket full of everyday essentials and gourmet delicacies will therefore go down a treat with any new homeowner. Don’t forget a seasonal tipple too!

A bit of seasonal bake-off

The Great British Bake-off may be over for another year but if you picked up a few tips along the way why don’t you whip up a loaf or two of bread for the new homeowners to help them through their first few days of unpacking and preparing for Christmas too.  If you are fully festive you could flavour the bread with some seasonal ingredients, perhaps a fruit loaf with raisins and cinnamon or if cake is more your thing what about a bit of Christmas cake to really spice up their post unpacking cuppa.

Christmas is a time for giving, but which every gift you choose it will be gratefully received. Enjoy quality time with your friends and family whilst you relax over Yuletide.  Watch out on our Oakley Facebook page for our annual Christmas competition and be in for a chance to win some goodies.
