Meet the Team: Georgia, our Senior Residential Sales Consultant

21st August 2019

Georgia has been with us for several, years, and you might already recognise her from our old and new websites, as the friendly face on the phone in our photos. Georgia's role is in our very busy Residential Sales team, so we wanted to get to know more about what it's like to be part of our buzzing city-centre Sales branch at the hear of Brighton.

What do you like about working at Oakley?

I really love that we work as a team here at Oakley. Everyone supports each other and we are very sociable. In our department, we deal with a range of different properties both new homes and traditional homes so it keeps the job varied, interesting and exciting. There are some really fantastic properties in Brighton and Hove.

How did you get into working with Property?

Growing up, I had many jobs in different industries and didn’t seem to find the one that suited me best until I started my first job in property in 2013. I randomly saw a job advertised in and Estate Agency and thought that I would give it a go as it could be interesting. (I always loved playing Monopoly when I was younger and negotiating with my friends and family for the different streets which I needed!) I think working in an Estate Agency sales team really suits me, because I enjoy meeting different people, being nosy and looking around homes, and also expanding my knowledge about the local area, different building types, the housing market and housing and finance regulations. Property has certainly become my passion!

What is the most expensive property you’ve sold?

I was privileged to help some owners achieve £3,000,000 for a beautiful townhouse in Chelsea, London.  However, no matter how exclusive the property is, the design and uniqueness of all properties seem to inspire me and home is definitely what you make it. The residents of Brighton and Hove are very good at interior design, I see some wonderfully stylish homes in my work and lots of art too.

What is your favourite type of older property in Brighton?

My favourite type of homes in Brighton are Victorian terraces that still have their original period features. Such as the properties in the Clifton Hill area, if those walls could tell a story, it would be a very interesting one! At the moment we have some lovely terraced properties available in the Montpelier and Fiveways areas too.

Have you achieved any professional qualifications?

Yes, I have achieved my NAEA Propertymark NFoPP Level 3 award in ‘The Sale of Residential Property’ qualification and I am currently studying for the Level 4 award. This qualification has helped me learn about the law surrounding property sales, best practices as a sales consultant, and to know more about property construction types and spotting defects, in order to advise our sales appraisal process and to help identify an accurate asking price for our customers when we list their homes for sale.

Apart from selling houses, what else does your role involve?

My role is varied as not only do I sell houses & flats in terms of finding buyers and showing them around, I get involved with the whole process from start to finish. So firstly I carry out market research before valuing the homes, I then carry out viewings, negotiate sales and work with solicitors to follow the sales through to completion. I like that we are involved in the whole process, as it enables me to keep the customer informed and we build strong working relationships with our customers.

How does it feel to hand over the keys to new homeowners?

I feel happy and proud that we have worked hard to make a move happen and see the joy that it brings to both purchasers & sellers moving into their new homes and chapters of their lives. We do get some lovely feedback from customers too including thank you cards, and it's very heartwarming to see them happy.

You must see some exciting things through the window from your desk in your Brighton city centre office. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen?

Well, there are many bizarre things that happen outside my office! It is Brighton after all! My favourite time of year is May, when the festival starts, as the Spiegeltent is right outside our office and we see lots of performers passing by. However, if I had to pinpoint one thing, in particular, I would say that it is the weird and wonderful clothes that one local man wears. They are eccentric, odd and just fabulous and he makes an extra effort every day to look unique, I'm always intrigued to see what he'll wear next!
