A few of the best Sussex Family Christmas events for 2019

27th November 2019

We’ve always felt so lucky to live in Sussex with its beautiful scenery, fantastic night life, great transport links and historical homes. There’s always something to see and do, and especially at Christmas time, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Here are some of our favourite Sussex Christmas events:

Glow Wild at Wakehurst

Each year the gardens of Wakehurst Place in Ardingly are lit up with wonderful lanterns to lead you on a glowing nature trail that’s fun for all the family. The event runs Thursday to Sunday through November and December. Wakehurst is also home to the UK’s tallest living Christmas tree, which will be decorated with 1800 sparkling lights. Visit kew.org/wakehurst .

The Bluebell Railway Santa Specials

Many of our team have happy childhood memories of visiting the Bluebell Railway at Christmas time. Santa will be on board giving out gifts for the little ones. The train stops at Horsted Keynes, where they’ll be a Victorian Fairground and Christmas Market for all to enjoy. Visit bluebell-railway.co.uk

Christmas at Drusillas

Drusillas is a wonderful place to visit all year round but is particularly magical at Christmas time, as Santa and his huskies take up residence for December. You can take the children to see him, and afterwards enjoy the gentle rides that are suitable for all the family, and say hello to the many different animals in the zoo. You can even get up close to the lorikeets and lemurs by visiting their open cages. Visit drusillas.co.uk

Santa Flights on the i360

Santa really will be everywhere this year! You can also see him up in the sky and point out your house to him as you tower over Brighton and Hove during a ride on the i360. He’ll be there in the afternoons throughout December.

The Christmas Huts at Churchill Square

We love it when the Christmas huts pop up as there’s always something new and interesting to see or eat! It’s worth popping in to the city centre, there are lots of great Christmas displays in the shops and street lights to see too.

Christmas parties open to all

If you’re looking for a great Christmas party with drinking, dancing and a meal with all the trimmings, nearly all of the major hotels in Brighton City Centre will be running party nights where you can book a table with your friends, throw on something dapper and pull a cracker. There’s a Masquerade Ball at The Mecure Hotel, or for something more traditional, there is a Carol Concert at the Royal Pavilion.

Late-night Christmas shopping

Last but not least, we will be taking part in the Christmas shopping nights in our local area. Our Lewes Town and Country branch will be welcoming all of our customers old and new with a glass of warm mulled wine and a tasty mince pie on Thursday 5th December from 5.30pm – we hope to see you there!
