The Oakley ‘TriO’ will be Sky Diving 15,000ft on the 31st July 2022 to raise money for Rockinghorse Children’s Charity

3rd May 2022

On Sunday 17st July 2022, Sara Gavillet and Jason Ferguson from our Shoreham team, and Alex Powrie from our Brighton residential sales team, will be jumping out of a plane at a crazy 15,000ft, all in the name of raising money for Rockinghorse Children’s charity.

Rockinghorse, a Brighton based charity, are celebrating their 55th anniversary this year. It was set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann to improve healthcare services for sick children and babies, helping youngsters both in and out of hospitals, ensuring that they have the best chance in life.

The charity provides funding for lifesaving equipment, ground-breaking research, critical additional staff, and projects in children's hospitals, wards, and services throughout the county, all with the goal of allowing children to be children, no matter how sick they are.

Despite being a small charity, they helped 12,000 children last year, and they have helped nearly a million babies, children, and teenagers since their inception.

When we asked Sara Gavillet, our Shoreham property administrator, what made her want to take part in the jump she said,

“I often take part in fundraising events for various different charities throughout the year as I believe it is vitally important to support our local communities. Rockinghorse Children’s Charity is a wonderful, and sadly necessary, charity that really does help to change lives. If jumping out of a plane makes even one child’s world a better place to live in, then I’m all for it”.

Sara was a sick baby, a twin, and spent a long period in a baby unit with a severe sickness, away from her brother and family. She was on the verge of passing. Without the experienced nurses and physicians who spent hours with her, including the use of life support equipment, she would not be here today and able to take part in this 15,000-foot skydive. Her mother has confided in Sara through the years about how tough and lonely it was for her. Sara said,

"My experience as a baby and the lasting effects it had on my family is why I am so passionate about this charity. This is for all the mothers out there going through what my mother did all those years ago".

We caught up with Emma Cunliffe, supporter engagement manager at Rockinghorse, who spoke to us about what it means for companies like Oakley to support them. She said,

“We are delighted that Oakley are taking part in this Skydive to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and it will go a long way to help improve facilities and provide the necessary equipment needed to continue high quality life-saving treatment”.

As a business, we fully accept our community responsibility and the importance of supporting those around us. We hope that by taking part in this event, we can raise awareness and give something back to the community in which we operate and have a positive impact on those who live here.

We are kindly asking for donations to help reach our goal of raising £2,000 for Rockinghorse Children’s Charity. Anything from a penny to a pound will make a huge difference to families going through the toughest of times, so any contribution to this cause would be greatly appreciated.
