Atelier Lewes announced as Best Mixed Use Development winner at the International Property Awards

4th October 2022

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Atelier Lewes, a joint venture between Gold Property Developments, Cross Stone Regeneration and Oakley Property has been recognised as a winner of the Best Mixed Use Development category at The International Property Awards.

The International Property Awards are open to residential and commercial property professionals from around the globe. They celebrate the highest levels of achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry, focusing on services, sustainability, high living standards, ergonomics, originality and creativity.

An International Property Award is a world-renowned mark of excellence.

Stuart Shield, President of the International Property Awards, said,

“I’d like to congratulate you for achieving success in the United Kingdom Property Awards 2022-2023. The objective of these awards is to recognise excellence and maintain high standards in the property industry worldwide. Please accept my congratulations to your whole team for the splendid efforts made in order to achieve this success.”

Atelier Lewes is constructed on the edge of a trade park within central Lewes, adjacent a large Tesco supermarket car park, which by virtue of its location meant it offered a unique opportunity to link up a variety of surrounding uses to include the town park, river walk into the town centre and local residential neighbourhoods, as well as the local business community.

Chris Oakley of Oakley Property commented,

"As the site was a former brownfield industrial site, there was a planning requirement to develop it for mixed use and create employment space, as well as provide much needed affordable residential accommodation. Our brief was to provide business units that could offer flexible working environments and appeal to SME businesses, as ‘next step’ accommodation that could either be purchased or leased. Further, that the units should take advantage of the prominent trading position next to a Tesco car park and offer these small businesses self-contained accommodation with their own high profile front door, as well as separate mezzanine space and high ceilings of 5m, which would mean the units could be used as offices, art studios and gyms etc."

To overcome the challenges of the location of the site, wedged between a church, a Tesco supermarket and DIY store, the residential space had to not only be positioned to take advantage of the stunning downland views in this historic County town, but also provide appropriately quiet and protected living spaces, achieved through triple glazing and MVHR ventilation systems.

Ross Barbour of Cross Stone added,

"The scheme was branded Atelier Lewes, reflecting the strong artistic ties of Lewes, once the home of Rodin’s ‘Kiss’ statue, which has a fascinating connection to Lewes. The two separate use elements of the scheme were named Atelier Live and Atelier Work".

Mr Barbour added,

"Winning an award for Best Mixed Use Development at the International Property Awards is testament to the thorough planning, development and marketing of Atelier Lewes. Due to the diverse target market, a highly original and creative approach was used to bring Atelier Lewes to life.

In a property market saturated with new build developments, we knew we had to take a creative approach to make Atelier stand out above the crowd. From the development itself, to the detailed marketing plan and unique branding, everything about Atelier has been carefully planned and considered to appeal to the target audience".

Atelier Lewes is a joint venture between three well respected organisations and Annie Foster Firth of Gold Property, who have constructed the scheme, went on to say,

"Being recognised as winners at the International Property Awards is a massive achievement for everyone involved in this truly joint venture project, and the Atelier Lewes team are delighted the forward-thinking and unique approach has been so well received. They truly believed in the vision for Atelier Lewes and having a clear and coherent plan in place throughout the development process has resulted in a fantastic development that both residents and businesses alike can be proud to call home”.

Annie continued,

“Atelier has been a wonderful development from start to finish. Working with our partners Oakley Property and Cross Stone, we have been able to achieve something special, which I am delighted to see recognised by the International Property Awards. We were always extremely proud of what we have achieved with Atelier, and winning this award is the icing on the cake”.

There are now only a few of the 41 apartments remaining at Atelier, to include two recently released penthouses, and roughly 40% of the business units are now pre-sold/let, ahead of the schemes completion this November.
