Biodiversity Net Gain Seminar with Wiston Estate | Oakley Property Events

12th May 2025

Last week, Oakley Property had the pleasure of hosting a private afternoon at the beautiful Wiston Estate, bringing together developers, landowners, and industry professionals for an insightful seminar on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)—followed by a tasting of award-winning English sparkling wines.

As the planning landscape evolves, BNG is fast becoming a critical part of sustainable development strategy. To help our clients and contacts stay ahead, we partnered with Wiston Estate’s expert team to demonstrate how their forward-thinking approach to BNG offsetting is already delivering measurable results and creating opportunities for collaboration across Sussex.

The afternoon featured presentations from Richard Goring (Wiston Estate), Penny Green (Estate Ecologist), and Greg Sheard (Commercial Director at Wiston Estate), each offering practical guidance on how BNG can support long-term planning success.

Really useful insight into how we can seek to address BNG requirements on new projects, which is one of many challenges we seem to be facing on a daily basis,” said David Shepherd, New Business & Partnerships Director at Chartway Partnerships Group.

Guests were also treated to a guided walk through the estate’s rewilded areas, seeing first-hand the biodiversity benefits already in motion.

My recent visit to the Wiston Estate to learn more about BNG was a really worthwhile exercise,” said Stephan Pfeiffer of Lavender HomesLearning what the owners are doing in the wider context of protecting the estate for future generations is truly inspirational.”

The event closed with a guided tasting hosted by Kirsty Goring, featuring a curated selection of sparkling wines from Wiston’s award-winning cellar, alongside local cheeses and produce.

The setting was stunning… a memorable and educational experience,” added Elliott Raggio, Director at 328 Developments.
